What Is the 8th Pay Commission Salary Calculator?
The 8th pay commission salary calculator (often just called an 8th pay commission calculator) is a free tool that estimates how much a central government employee will earn once the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) is implemented. You choose your 7th CPC pay level and cell, pick a fitment factor, and the calculator works out your revised basic pay, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, gross salary and approximate in-hand salary — along with the likely arrears.
Because the first half of every result is your current salary, the same tool also works as a 7th CPC salary calculator and a general central government salary calculator. All 18 pay levels and every cell of the 7th CPC pay matrix are built in, so you do not need to look up your basic pay separately.
If you are already retired, use the 8th pay commission pension calculator on our homepage instead — it covers basic pension, family pension, commutation and pension arrears.
8th Pay Commission Salary: Latest News and Implementation Date
Here is where things stand as of October 2026. Dated entries for each development are on the 8th CPC updates page.
- Commission at work, report pending. The 8th CPC was constituted on 3 November 2025 under Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with an 18-month mandate that puts the report deadline around May 2027.
- Consultations continuing. After earlier rounds in Delhi and cities including Jaipur, Chennai, Puducherry and Chandigarh, the Commission is meeting stakeholders in Bengaluru on 7–8 October 2026 and in Mumbai on 22–23 October 2026.
- No fitment factor or salary hike decided. Every figure from 1.92× to 3.68× in circulation is a projection or a union demand. No minimum pay, pay matrix or allowance rate has been announced.
- No implementation date notified. 1 January 2026 is widely discussed as the effective date because the 7th CPC's ten-year cycle ended on 31 December 2025, but the government has not confirmed it.
- DA keeps rising in the meantime. DA went from 58% to 60% from January 2026. June 2026 CPI-IW data points to 63% from July 2026, and Cabinet approval is still awaited. Any salary increase in 2026 therefore comes from DA, not the 8th CPC.
Realistically, not before 2027. The report is due around May 2027, after which the Cabinet must approve it and departments must re-fix pay. For comparison, the 7th CPC submitted its report in November 2015, the Cabinet approved it in June 2016 and revised salaries were paid from August 2016, with arrears back to 1 January 2016. A similar gap would put the first 8th CPC salary in late 2027 or 2028, with arrears covering the months in between.
How to Use the 8th Pay Commission Salary Calculator
- Select your pay level: Choose your 7th CPC level, from Level 1 (₹18,000) to Level 18 (₹2,50,000).
- Select your pay matrix cell: Each annual increment moves you one cell down the matrix. Pick the cell matching your current basic pay, or type the basic pay from your salary slip.
- Set your city: Choose your HRA class (X, Y or Z) and whether you are posted in one of the 19 higher transport allowance cities.
- Choose the current DA rate: 60% is in force now; switch to 63% to include the expected July 2026 revision.
- Pick a fitment factor: 2.86× is selected by default as the most-cited expert estimate. Try other scenarios or enter a custom factor.
- Adjust the post-revision settings: Set DA after implementation, the HRA rate you expect, your pension scheme and the arrears period.
- Download your report: Save the full breakdown as a CSV file that opens in Excel or Google Sheets.
8th Pay Commission Fitment Factor and Your Salary
The 8th pay commission fitment factor is the multiplier applied to your current basic pay to fix your new basic pay. The 7th CPC used 2.57×, which took the minimum basic pay from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. For the 8th CPC, projections range widely:
| Fitment Factor | Source | Minimum Basic Pay (from ₹18,000) | Maximum Basic Pay (from ₹2,50,000) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.92× | Conservative estimate | ₹34,560 | ₹4,80,000 |
| 2.28× | Moderate estimate | ₹41,040 | ₹5,70,000 |
| 2.57× | Repeat of 7th CPC | ₹46,260 | ₹6,42,500 |
| 2.86× | Most-cited expert estimate | ₹51,480 | ₹7,15,000 |
| 3.00× | Union demand | ₹54,000 | ₹7,50,000 |
| 3.68× | Maximum demand (NC-JCM) | ₹66,240 | ₹9,20,000 |
The comparison table above works as an 8th pay commission fitment factor calculator: once you select your level, it shows your salary under all six factors at once.
How Much Salary Increase in the 8th Pay Commission?
The headline fitment factor overstates the real 8th pay commission salary hike. When new pay is fixed, your current 60% DA is merged into the revised basic and DA restarts at zero. HRA is also expected to fall back to lower percentages. The honest comparison is today's gross salary against the revised gross salary.
Level 1 (Minimum Salary): Current Gross ₹33,840
| Fitment Factor | Revised Basic | Revised Gross | Monthly Gain | Real Increase (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.92× Conservative | ₹34,560 | ₹41,530 | +₹7,690 | +22.7% |
| 2.28× Moderate | ₹41,040 | ₹49,046 | +₹15,206 | +44.9% |
| 2.57× Same as 7th CPC | ₹46,260 | ₹55,102 | +₹21,262 | +62.8% |
| 2.86× Expert estimate | ₹51,480 | ₹61,157 | +₹27,317 | +80.7% |
| 3.00× Union demand | ₹54,000 | ₹64,080 | +₹30,240 | +89.4% |
| 3.68× Max demand (NC-JCM) | ₹66,240 | ₹78,278 | +₹44,438 | +131.3% |
Level 7 (Entry ₹44,900): Current Gross ₹83,700
| Fitment Factor | Revised Basic | Revised Gross | Monthly Gain | Real Increase (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.92× Conservative | ₹86,208 | ₹1,02,881 | +₹19,181 | +22.9% |
| 2.28× Moderate | ₹1,02,372 | ₹1,21,632 | +₹37,932 | +45.3% |
| 2.57× Same as 7th CPC | ₹1,15,393 | ₹1,36,736 | +₹53,036 | +63.4% |
| 2.86× Expert estimate | ₹1,28,414 | ₹1,51,840 | +₹68,140 | +81.4% |
| 3.00× Union demand | ₹1,34,700 | ₹1,59,132 | +₹75,432 | +90.1% |
| 3.68× Max demand (NC-JCM) | ₹1,65,232 | ₹1,94,549 | +₹1,10,849 | +132.4% |
Both tables assume a Y-class city, 60% DA now, 0% DA and 16% HRA after revision. Notice that at 1.92× the gross salary rises only about 23%, even though basic pay nearly doubles — that is why unions are pressing for a factor of 2.86× or higher. For context, the 7th CPC's 2.57× produced a real increase of only about 14% on pay and DA in 2016.
8th Pay Commission Pay Matrix: How Your Cell Moves
Under the 7th CPC, each level is a vertical column of cells, and each cell is about 3% higher than the one above it (rounded to the nearest ₹100). One annual increment moves you one cell down. The 8th CPC is expected to keep a matrix structure, so your revised pay depends on the cell you are in, not just your level. Here is how the first ten cells of Level 7 could change:
| Level 7 Cell | 7th CPC Basic | At 2.57× | At 2.86× | At 3.68× |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cell 1 | ₹44,900 | ₹1,15,393 | ₹1,28,414 | ₹1,65,232 |
| Cell 2 | ₹46,200 | ₹1,18,734 | ₹1,32,132 | ₹1,70,016 |
| Cell 3 | ₹47,600 | ₹1,22,332 | ₹1,36,136 | ₹1,75,168 |
| Cell 4 | ₹49,000 | ₹1,25,930 | ₹1,40,140 | ₹1,80,320 |
| Cell 5 | ₹50,500 | ₹1,29,785 | ₹1,44,430 | ₹1,85,840 |
| Cell 6 | ₹52,000 | ₹1,33,640 | ₹1,48,720 | ₹1,91,360 |
| Cell 7 | ₹53,600 | ₹1,37,752 | ₹1,53,296 | ₹1,97,248 |
| Cell 8 | ₹55,200 | ₹1,41,864 | ₹1,57,872 | ₹2,03,136 |
| Cell 9 | ₹56,900 | ₹1,46,233 | ₹1,62,734 | ₹2,09,392 |
| Cell 10 | ₹58,600 | ₹1,50,602 | ₹1,67,596 | ₹2,15,648 |
In practice the Commission will publish a new matrix, and employees will be placed in the cell equal to or next above their multiplied pay, as happened in 2016. The calculator shows the straight multiplication, which is a close approximation.
8th Pay Commission Salary Structure: Basic, DA, HRA and TA
Your monthly salary under the 8th Pay Commission will have the same building blocks as today. Here is how each is expected to change.
Basic Pay
Current basic pay multiplied by the fitment factor, then placed in the revised pay matrix. Every other component is calculated from this figure, so it drives the entire salary.
Dearness Allowance (DA)
DA is revised every January and July based on the AICPI-IW. It is 60% now and expected to be 63% from July 2026. On implementation, DA is merged into the new basic and restarts at 0%, then rises again from the next half-year.
House Rent Allowance (HRA)
| City Class | HRA Now (DA above 50%) | 7th CPC Starting Rate (2017) | Minimum HRA |
|---|---|---|---|
| X (population 50 lakh+) | 30% | 24% | ₹5,400 |
| Y (5 to 50 lakh) | 20% | 16% | ₹3,600 |
| Z (below 5 lakh) | 10% | 8% | ₹1,800 |
Under the 7th CPC, HRA started at 24/16/8%, moved to 27/18/9% when DA crossed 25%, and to 30/20/10% when DA crossed 50% in January 2024. The calculator assumes the 8th CPC restarts at 24/16/8%, but you can change this.
Transport Allowance (TA)
| Pay Level | Higher TA Cities | Other Places |
|---|---|---|
| Level 9 and above | ₹7,200 + DA | ₹3,600 + DA |
| Level 3 to 8 | ₹3,600 + DA | ₹1,800 + DA |
| Level 1 and 2 | ₹1,350 + DA | ₹900 + DA |
Level 1 and 2 employees drawing ₹24,200 or more get the Level 3–8 rates. The calculator assumes the new TA rates will equal today's TA including DA, which is how the 7th CPC set its rates in 2016.
No official 8th CPC salary structure PDF exists yet, because the Commission has not published a pay matrix. For your own records, download the CSV report from the calculator, or use your browser's Print → Save as PDF to keep this page with the salary slab and level-wise tables.
8th Pay Commission Salary for Popular Pay Levels
Level 1 (MTS, Peon): Minimum Salary
The minimum basic pay of ₹18,000 would become ₹34,560 at 1.92×, ₹51,480 at 2.86× and ₹66,240 at 3.68×. At 2.86× in a Y-class city, gross salary rises from about ₹33,840 to ₹61,157.
Level 6 (Inspector, Senior Auditor)
Entry pay of ₹35,400 becomes about ₹1,01,244 at 2.86×, crossing ₹1 lakh in basic pay alone. Gross salary in a Y-class city moves from about ₹66,600 to ₹1,20,323.
Level 7 and Level 8
Level 7 entry pay of ₹44,900 becomes ₹1,28,414 at 2.86× (₹1,15,393 at 2.57×). Level 8 entry pay of ₹47,600 becomes ₹1,36,136 at 2.86×, with gross salary rising from about ₹88,560 to ₹1,60,798.
Level 10 and IAS Salary After the 8th Pay Commission
Level 10 is the entry level for Group A services, including the IAS, IPS and IFS junior scale. Entry pay of ₹56,100 becomes about ₹1,60,446 at 2.86×. At the top, the Cabinet Secretary's ₹2,50,000 (Level 18) would become ₹4,80,000 at 1.92× or ₹7,15,000 at 2.86×. Apex scales are fixed amounts and may be set separately by the Commission rather than by a straight multiplier.
8th Pay Commission Arrears Calculation for Employees
If the 8th CPC is made effective from 1 January 2026, employees will receive arrears for every month until revised pay is actually paid. Under the 7th CPC, arrears were paid on pay and DA only — revised HRA and other allowances started later (1 July 2017) without arrears. Assuming the same approach:
Monthly arrears ≈ Revised Basic Pay − (Current Basic Pay + Current DA)
Total arrears ≈ Monthly arrears × Number of months from the effective date
| Level (entry) | Basic + 60% DA Now | Revised Basic (2.86×) | Monthly Difference | 12 Months | 18 Months | 24 Months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | ₹28,800 | ₹51,480 | ₹22,680 | ₹2,72,160 | ₹4,08,240 | ₹5,44,320 |
| Level 3 | ₹34,720 | ₹62,062 | ₹27,342 | ₹3,28,104 | ₹4,92,156 | ₹6,56,208 |
| Level 4 | ₹40,800 | ₹72,930 | ₹32,130 | ₹3,85,560 | ₹5,78,340 | ₹7,71,120 |
| Level 6 | ₹56,640 | ₹1,01,244 | ₹44,604 | ₹5,35,248 | ₹8,02,872 | ₹10,70,496 |
| Level 7 | ₹71,840 | ₹1,28,414 | ₹56,574 | ₹6,78,888 | ₹10,18,332 | ₹13,57,776 |
| Level 8 | ₹76,160 | ₹1,36,136 | ₹59,976 | ₹7,19,712 | ₹10,79,568 | ₹14,39,424 |
| Level 10 | ₹89,760 | ₹1,60,446 | ₹70,686 | ₹8,48,232 | ₹12,72,348 | ₹16,96,464 |
| Level 11 | ₹1,08,320 | ₹1,93,622 | ₹85,302 | ₹10,23,624 | ₹15,35,436 | ₹20,47,248 |
| Level 13 | ₹1,96,960 | ₹3,52,066 | ₹1,55,106 | ₹18,61,272 | ₹27,91,908 | ₹37,22,544 |
| Level 14 | ₹2,30,720 | ₹4,12,412 | ₹1,81,692 | ₹21,80,304 | ₹32,70,456 | ₹43,60,608 |
These are gross amounts before income tax and NPS deductions, and only a guide. DA changes on both sides during the arrears period, and the number of months will not be known until an effective date is notified. The calculator shows arrears for your own pay.

Does the 8th Pay Commission Apply to State Government Employees?
Not directly. The 8th Central Pay Commission covers central government employees, including defence personnel, railways, posts and Union Territories. State government employees — in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Bihar or any other state — get pay revisions through their own state pay commissions, which usually follow the central award with their own fitment factor and timeline.
State employees on a pay matrix similar to the central one can still use this calculator for a rough idea: type your basic pay directly and pick a factor. Treat the result as indicative only until your state announces its revision.
